Mission |
Beth's mission is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ through every aspect of
her life. As an artist, she strives to represent His perfect creative work beautifully,
accurately, and respectfully. She has at her fingertips a powerful tool with which
to show her unique observation of a given scene. Everything about the painting,
from the subject to the colors and brushstrokes chosen, works together to present
viewers with clear insight to a specific moment of time. They should feel
the warmth of the sun, smell the fresh ocean breeze, hear the roar
of the crashing surf, and taste the salty seaspray! Beth's hope is that
viewers will not only feel a deep connection to the place in her paintings, but
be renewed and uplifted by the experience. |
| Style | Beth's
watercolor style is a clean blend of traditional realism and contemporary impressionism
depicting Maine gardens, landscapes, lighthouses, and seascapes. |
| Technique | Beth
carefully draws each painting on 140 or 300 lb watercolor paper, over which she
adds numerous fine glazes of paint with deliberate brushstrokes. The result is
a beautifully detailed scene that comes alive with natural color. |
| Background
| Beth
has been an artist for as long as she can remember. Whether hiking in Acadia National
Park, searching for moose in Baxter State Park, collecting sea glass on Deer Isle,
donning her straw hat for a garden tour, or going for a leisurely boat ride along
the coast, Beth is always enchanted by the beauty of Maine. She received her first
camera at the age of ten and soon learned that photographing her world was just
not enough. She learned how to draw - and then paint - these images. Since then,
Beth has been privileged to study with several outstanding artists, including Ken
Mike, Donna Wolfe, and Mary Laury. Twenty-something years later, the photographer's
eye has become sharper and more focused, and the artist's hand has become more
adept at translating these images onto paper in a clean, realistic style.

| Education
| Beth
graduated from Cedarville University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
English and minors in Bible and History. She went to college with the firm expectation
that she would not pursue a formal career in art, but found that she was still
irresistibly drawn to it. Her art education is therefore the result of informal
studies that will undoubtedly continue throughout her life. Experience is the
best teacher.
