"The Invitation," an original watercolor painting of Jordan Pond in Acadia by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"The Invitation" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

This large painting looks over Jordan Pond to The Bubbles beyond. The green Adirondack chairs beckon you to have a seat and survey the brilliant fall foliage around the pond (hence the title, "The Invitation"). Notice how deep the blue water is - that's because the air is cooler. It has a powerful impact with the vibrant fall foliage. The chairs were positioned just this way in my original photograph. I love how the arms are barely touching, as if they are having a conversation.

This full sheet watercolor painting has a lot of details to take in. It took me more than 3 weeks to complete, and the chairs alone took 2 1/2 hours to draw. I'm so happy with the way it turned out, especially the crisp focus of the chairs (they have an almost photo-real quality).

My painting of The Bubbles focuses on the mountains and shows a closer look of the wildflowers in the field. I have prints of both paintings available.

You may see more paintings of Acadia National Park and other Maine scenery in my Landscapes Gallery.

This original watercolor painting is unmatted, so you can work with a framer to choose a pefect mat and frame combo. The final painting will probably measure 30x38" framed (edge to edge), depending how wide a frame profile you choose. The pictures below will help you visualize the matted painting and give you ideas for choosing a frame. The painting is perfect for over a sofa, loveseat, or fireplace.
