"Little Long Pond I" (sold)

Seal Harbor, Maine

Original watercolor of Little Long Pond in Seal Harbor, Maine by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Little Long Pond I" shows a late summer view of the pond in Seal Harbor, Maine, painted by Beth Whitney.

This is one of my favorite paintings of Little Long Pond (also my favorite place on MDI). You can tell that it's late in the afternoon (long shadows on the left), the air is cooler (dark water), lilies petering out (but still there), and the light is warm, highlighting the golden fields. I usually prefer to paint in the morning, but I took the reference photo on one of my regular treks around the pond after work.

While this painting has sold, Little Long Pond View shows a closer panoramic view that includes the boathouse.
