"Lupine on Cape Rosier" (sold)

Harborside, Maine

Original painting of Lupine on Cape Rosier in Harborside, Maine by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Lupine on Cape Rosier" is an original watercolor seascape painting by Beth Whitney

This gorgeous view of Cape Rosier framed by lupine is right near the Holbrook Island Sanctuary in Harborside (Brooksville), Maine. It overlooks the pristine waters of Penobscot Bay, a particular favorite of sailors.

Lupine is probably the favorite flower in Maine for obvious reasons. I especially love it with buttercups for contrast. Add the ocean, sailboats, and a stately seaside cottage, and you have a classic scene of summer in Maine.

This painting was selected by The Jackson Laboratory to advertise their courses and conferences one year, so posters went all over the world (thanks Luanne!). I moved to Boston the same year for grad school and worked at Harvard. I was basically a fish out of water, but several of our labs had the posters with my painting displayed in the hallways. It was a bit of home in the big, scary city.

Open edition giclee prints are also available of this painting. The original painting is 20x28", so I can have custom prints made up to that size. Please contact me for more info/pricing on the larger prints.
