Rockland Harbor, Maine
"Owls Head" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.
This view of the Owls Head Lighthouse is from the water on a stormy day. This was toward the end of our Penobscot Bay sail, and the sky was so dramatic (as was the choppy water). The lighthouse just gleams in the amazing light. I think this is the most exciting sky I've ever painted.
Owls Head is located just at the head of Rockland Harbor, Maine. You can drive to the park and enjoy lunch and a walk up the steps that lead to the lighthouse. Sometimes the keeper's cottage is open for tours. It's a beautiful spot and the views are outstanding. I have two other paintings of the lighthouse from up on the hill: "Owls Head Light" and "Owls Head Lighthouse" (I've painted it so many times that I'm running out of names).
You can see more original paintings of lighthouses in my Lighthouse Paintings Gallery.
