"Schooner Head" (sold)

Acadia National Park, Maine

Painting of Schooner Head in Acadia National Park, Maine by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Schooner Head" is an original watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

Schooner Head is one of the favorite stopping places along the Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park. It's named after a natural "stain" on the rocks that looks exactly like a schooner (only visible by boat). One of these days, I'll paint it. There used to be a wonderful natural feature called "The Spouting Horn" along the far side of the Head, but it was sealed off a few years back.

To see this view, either drive along the Park Loop Road or take Schooner Head Road (off Rt 3) and follow the signs to the overlook. There's plenty of parking and a trail that winds down to the shore. You can also take one of the Frenchman's Bay boat cruises to explore the area. The book, "Bar Harbor Days" has some fun stories about the Schooner Head area.

Open edition giclee prints are available of this painting. The original painting measures 12x18", and custom prints may be ordered up to that size. Contact me for more information.
