"Somesville Bridge"

Mount Desert Island, Maine

Somesville Bridge painting by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Somesville Bridge" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

The Somesville Bridge is located on in Somesville on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The white building is the historic Selectman's building, now a museum operated by the MDI Historical Society. The iconic white arched bridge is a favorite for photo shoots. Many people have their engagement or wedding photos taken there, and I know one couple who were actually married on the bridge.

Painters and photographers usually capture the view from the road, with flowers in windowboxes lining the fence.  I've painted it that way a couple of other times, but I especially like this view with the purple pickerel weed in full bloom. Pickerel flowers are like baby lupine (the most perfect flower).

Across the road is Somes Sound, a beautiful fjord dividing Mount Desert Island nearly in half.

My Landcapes Gallery has more paintings of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.

The original painting has sold, but I have giclee prints available in several sizes.  It would look wonderful in a kitchen or living room, especially.  Smaller prints would add color to a bathroom.
