"Watching the Tide" is an original watercolor painting by Beth Whitney featuring crashing surf on Ocean Drive in Acadia National Park.

This painting shows a couple sitting on the rocks, watching the waves crash as the tide comes in. Sailboats in the distance are enjoying the perfect sunny day. There's something almost meditative about counting waves to see when the next set will roll in (and whether you'll get wet or not!).

This particular spot is right off the Park Loop Road, just past the Otter Cove at Western Point. It's my favorite place to watch surf roll in on this stretch of Acadia, and I think most people miss it. I've seen seals there many times.

My Seascapes Gallery has more dynamic watercolor paintings of Acadia National Park and other coastal locations.
