"Acadia Morning" an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney. This shows an early morning view of the mountains of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor from across Frenchman's Bay in Sorrento.
Sorrento is a beautiful village in Downeast Maine, on the way to the Schoodic peninsula. I've painted scenes from here many times. I like this particular perspective because of the perfect stillness of the sheltered water. You can feel the calm. The light is perfect for conveying that feeling of early morning, when the dew is on the ground and the air is slightly earthy. The bench invites quiet contemplation among the lupine and mallow flowers. I just love how the shadows on the right turned out (the sun is just coming up and kissing the island with light).
My Seascapes Gallery has more paintings of Acadia National Park and other coastal locations.
Watercolor on paper | $665 matted
Image: 9x21" | Size matted: 14x26"
This original watercolor painting includes an archival mat and backing board in a crystal clear protective closure sleeve. It's ready to slip into a standard 14x26" frame (not included). I have a double mat (white on top, rose on the bottom) that really sets off the flowers perfectly.
The pictures below will help you visualize the matted painting and give you ideas for choosing a frame. I recommend taking it with you when you go frame shopping so you can test drive several profiles and find one that speaks to you.
