"The Invitation"

Jordan Pond, Acadia

"The Invitation," an original watercolor painting of Jordan Pond in Acadia by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"The Invitation" is an original watercolor landscape painting by Beth Whitney featuring the view from the Jordan Pond House.

This view of Jordan Pond shows the green Adirondack chairs that beckon you to have a seat and survey the brilliant fall foliage around the pond (hence the title, "The Invitation"). Notice how deep the blue water is - that's because the air is cooler. I painted this from my own photo and didn't adjust the chairs at all. I love how the arms are touching, as if they are having a conversation.

This full sheet watercolor painting took me more than 3 weeks to complete, and the chairs alone were 2 1/2 hours to draw. I'm so happy with the way it turned out, especially the crisp focus of the chairs (they have an almost photo-real quality).

Paintings are a wonderful way to remember a favorite vacation with someone special. This painting would make a serious impact over a fireplace mantel, on an accent wall, or behind a couch. Once framed, this will probably be about 30x38", depending how wide of a frame you choose.
