"Lily Pond"

Asticou Azalea Garden

Original painting by Beth Whitney of the lily pond with pink rhododendrons at Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine. | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Lily Pond" is an original watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

This beautiful painting shows the two main ponds at the Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine.

On the left is the lily pond with wonderful reflections, pink rhododendrons, and a dense green canopy overhead. The pond is shallow, so you can see the warm muddy bottom as well as the trees reflecting on the surface (fairly tricky to paint).

Directly behind you is the bridge featured in another painting/print, "The Japanese Lantern". This is one of the most tranquil paintings I've ever done. You can literally hear the stillness in the air. It has to do with the perfectly still water and the lush greens.

The path continues to the main pond that fronts Peabody Drive (Rt 3) and the Asticou Inn beyond. To the right are the views for my "Stone Bridge" and "Spring's Promise" paintings.

Open edition giclee prints are also available of this painting.

My Garden Paintings Gallery has more paintings of Asticou, Thuya, and many other beautiful gardens on the coast of Maine.

Watercolor on paper | $750 matted
Image: 12x18" | Size matted: 18x24"

This original watercolor painting includes an archival double mat (white on top with a 1/8" strip of green) and backing board in a crystal clear protective closure sleeve. It's ready to slip into an 18x24" frame (not included).

The pictures below will help you visualize the matted painting and give you ideas for choosing a frame. I recommend taking it with you when you go frame shopping so you can test drive several profiles and find one that speaks to you.  I like this painting with a cool pewter frame to blend in with the cool greens in the garden.
