"Lily Pond"

Asticou Azalea Garden

Original painting by Beth Whitney of the lily pond with pink rhododendrons at Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine. | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Lily Pond" is an original watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

This beautiful painting shows the two main ponds at the Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine.

On the left is the lily pond with wonderful reflections, pink rhododendrons, and a dense green canopy overhead. The pond is shallow, so you can see the warm muddy bottom as well as the trees reflecting on the surface.

Directly behind you is the bridge featured in another painting/print, "The Japanese Lantern". This is one of the most tranquil paintings I've ever done. You can literally hear the stillness in the air. It has to do with the perfectly still water and the lush greens.

The path continues to the main pond that fronts Peabody Drive (Rt 3) and the Asticou Inn beyond.

My Garden Paintings Gallery has more paintings of Asticou, Thuya, and many other beautiful gardens on the coast of Maine.
