"Seaside Garden II"

Rockport, Maine

Painting of Monkshood, poppies, and other perennials on the coast of Maine by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Seaside Garden II" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

This colorful painting features a summer perennial garden planted around a wonderful center stone for contrast. Small granite bricks line the bed.  The cool blues of the ocean and sailboats easily gliding in the wind really set off the monkshood, red poppies, California poppies, and campanulas.  The garden is in Rockport, Maine, a little further away from the shore than I show it here.

I painted this scene in tandem with "Seaside Garden I". They would look wonderful displayed together because the scenes and colors are similar.  The colors in both paintings are a little sunnier than my digital images suggest (there's no feeling of impending rain or humidity).

My Garden Paintings Gallery has more paintings of cheerful flower gardens along the coast.

Watercolor on paper | $325 matted
Image: 8x12" | Size matted: 12x16"

This original watercolor painting includes a classic double white archival mat and backing board in a crystal clear protective closure sleeve. It's ready to slip into a standard 12x16" frame (not included).

The pictures below will help you visualize the matted painting and give you ideas for choosing a frame. I recommend taking it with you when you go frame shopping so you can test drive several profiles and find one that speaks to you.  I think this painting would look wonderful with a bronzy gold frame, displayed in a living room.
