"Spring's Promise"

Asticou Azalea Garden

"Spring's Promise," original painting of the Asticou Azalea Garden's bridge and flowers by Beth Whitney | DowneastWatercolors.com

"Spring's Promise" is an original watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

This painting shows flowers lining the sunny stream that runs through the various garden vignettes around the Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine. It flows toward the main Asticou Pond, which borders Peabody Drive (across from the Asticou Inn).

The plants are from Beatrix Farrand's private garden, which was divided between this garden and Thuya Garden. Each spring a family of ducks enjoy the grass and the ponds.

I've done several paintings from this garden - it's a painter's dream. A couple of these feature vantage points near this spot: "Stone Bridge" shows the view looking back toward the granite bridge on the right edge of this painting (they would pair well together), and "Lily Pond" shows a close view of the smaller pond and path off in the distance.

My Garden Paintings Gallery has more paintings of pretty flowers and coastal gardens in Maine.
