Mount Desert Island, Maine
"Summer Phlox" is an original watercolor painting by Beth Whitney featuring a rustin barn on Mount Desert Island, Maine.
This happy painting shows a weathered old barn with a beautiful golden field edged with Summer Phlox (one of the most glorious wildflowers). My favorite details are the red geraniums in the windows and the wagon wheel below. The geraniums are actually inspired by the Olson House in Cushing (made famous by Andrew Wyeth). It's a wonderful scene.
The physical barn is in Salsbury Cove, next to the Stone Barn (I employed significant artistic license with building placement/removal). You can see the edge of this barn in my "Stone Barn on Crooked Road" painting.
My Landscapes Gallery has more paintings of Mount Desert Island and other locations in Maine.
Watercolor on paper | $750 matted
Image: 12x18" | Size matted: 18x24"
This original watercolor painting includes an archival double mat (white on top with thin strip of blue on the inset). It's backed with archival FoamCor and packaged in a crystal clear protective closure sleeve. It's ready to slip into a standard 18x24" frame (not included). You may also purchase unmatted and have the matting/framing both done at a frame shop.
The pictures below will help you visualize the matted painting and give you ideas for choosing a frame. I recommend taking it with you when you go frame shopping so you can test drive several profiles and find one that speaks to you. This would add a touch of summer sunshine and color to your home.
