"Barred Island"

Sunset/Deer Isle, Maine

Watercolor painting of Barred Island in Deer Isle, Maine by artist Beth Whitney | Downeast Watercolors

"Barred Island" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

This lively seascape painting shows the surf rolling in at Barred Island in Sunset, Maine. This is my favorite preserve in Deer Isle. The rocks in the foreground look like jasper or agate when they are wet.

It's truly magical - you walk through the lush, verdant woods for awhile, and then out to a sandy beach. This vantage point shows Barred Island (connected by a tidal sandbar). Crockett Cove is off to the left and open sea on the right. It's a wonderful place to take in the changes in tide. If you go at low tide, you can cross over and loop around the island.

The original has sold, but I have giclee prints available in several sizes. Purchase from my Etsy shop or email me for an invoice.

My Seascapes Gallery has more dynamic watercolor paintings of coastal Maine seascapes.
