"Bug Light" (Portland Breakwater)

South Portland, Maine

Watercolor painting of Great Head and Sand Beach in Acadia National Park Maine by artist Beth Whitney | Downeast Watercolors

"Bug Light" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

Portland Breakwater Light is the official name, but most locals affectionately call this little sparkplug lighthouse "Bug Light" because of its diminutive size. It actually has curly eyelashes, if you look closely! Very cute. Many people have their weddings and engagement photos taken here.

This sweet lighthouse is located at the end of the Greenbelt Walkway in South Portland, Maine, in Bug Light Park. It's such a pretty spot. There are benches and lots of grass to relax and watch the many boats going back and forth. If you look to the left, just out of frame in my painting, you can see the Portland cityscape with its bustling waterfront. If you look straight out, you can see Fort Gorges off in the distance. I had a hard time choosing which angle to feature, but I really like the fort showing.

This lighthouse print would make a wonderful gift for someone who was either married or engaged here. I think it would be a perfect housewarming or hostess gift.

My Lighthouses Gallery has more scenic lighthouse paintings from along the coast of Maine.
