"Giant Stairs Surf"

Bailey Island, Maine

Huge wave crashing against rocks with ocean in background.

"Giant Stairs Surf" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

A huge wave crashes against the rocks at Giant Stairs on Bailey Island in Harpswell, Maine. You can see the scale of the wave by the plants, tiny birds in the churning surf below, and sailboat off in the distance. I love the purple and green colors in the wave. Believe it or not, they are even brighter in my photo!

The name, "Giant Stairs," comes from the rocks that look like steps descending into the water. They are right in front of you in this painting. This is one of the only times I've had the spot to myself. It's very popular with locals and tourists alike for obvious reasons.

My Seascapes Gallery has more dynamic watercolor paintings of Maine's beautiful coast.

Giclee prints are available in 5 sizes.
