"Pond Island Light"

Popham Beach, Maine

Watercolor painting of Pond Island Light by Maine artist Beth Whitney

"Pond Island Light" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

Shorebirds dart about in search of food stirred up by the crashing surf at Popham Beach.  Pond Island Light is just in the distance.  This view was taken at very low tide, making the lighthouse seem much closer than it really is.  You can access the beach from Popham Beach State Park or by parking by the fort and walking up.  It's beautiful any time of year, but I like the greens on the island in summer.

The painting is unmatted and ready to take to your favorite frame gallery for finishing. Depending on your decor and personal taste, I think it would look wonderful with a natural wood frame to accentuate the beach, but dark gray or black would really pull out the lighthouse and birds.

Giclee prints are available in 5 sizes.

This original watercolor painting includes a classic double white archival mat and backing board in a crystal clear protective closure sleeve. It's ready to slip into a standard 12x16" frame (not included).

The pictures below will help you visualize the matted painting and give you ideas for choosing a frame. I recommend taking it with you when you go frame shopping so you can test drive several profiles and find one that speaks to you.
