"Portland Head Light"

Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Watercolor painting of Portland Head Lighthouse in Maine by artist Beth Whitney | Downeast Watercolors

"Portland Head Light" is an original Maine watercolor painting by Beth Whitney.

Most paintings and photographs feature this classic side view of the Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I love this view with pink beach roses framing the lighthouse, cove, and looking out toward Ram Island Ledge Light in the distance.  I've painted this before from slightly closer on the path with golden rod in full bloom.  It's beautiful in late summer or early fall.  Imagine when the monarch butterflies are all around!

If you're planning a visit to Fort Williams Park, aim for a little while before high tide so you can see the crashing surf on both sides of the lighthouse.  It's so dramatic!  There are trails, picnic tables, open spaces for flying kites, gardens, and lots of history to explore.

My Lighthouses Gallery has more scenic lighthouse paintings from along the coast of Maine.
